Health Insurance Advisory

Independent advice across the medical insurance lifecycle — from product and benefit design to underwriting, claims, provider networks, cost containment and regulatory compliance.

The challenge

Overview

Medical insurance only works when the cover people buy matches the care they actually need, at a cost that can be sustained year after year. Too often, schemes are renewed on autopilot, claims costs rise faster than premiums, provider networks grow without quality controls, and members discover gaps only when they fall ill.

OGHC gives insurers, intermediaries, employers and health systems independent, evidence-based advice on how to design, buy, run and improve medical insurance. We combine clinical understanding, claims experience and data analysis — and because we do not sell insurance or earn commission, our recommendations follow your interests.

A TPA audits high-cost claims, tightens pre-authorisation and renegotiates tariffs with key hospitals.

  • Comparing policies objectively

An employer or broker compares several insurers' policy handbooks clause by clause before a tender.

  • Preparing for regulatory change

A medical scheme reviews its products and processes against new regulatory or statutory-scheme requirements.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell insurance or earn commission?

No. OGHC is an independent advisory firm. We do not underwrite risk, act as an insurer or earn commission from insurers, so our advice is not tied to any product. Where a transaction requires a licensed intermediary, we work alongside your broker or advise you on the selection.

Can you compare several insurers' policy documents for us?

Yes. We compare benefits, limits, sub-limits, exclusions, waiting periods and service terms clause by clause and present the differences in a structured report with references to the source documents.

How do you use claims data while protecting privacy?

We work with anonymised or pseudonymised data wherever possible, sign data processing agreements and apply the data protection law that governs the data — such as Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019 or GDPR. Individual medical records are not needed for most reviews.

What do you need to start a claims or scheme review?

Usually the policy document, the benefit schedule, two to three years of claims and premium data, and the provider list. We share a simple data request at the start.
